Teacher trainees at the Solomon Islands national university (SINU) Panatina campus are doing their final touch down with group presentations before leaving for their six weeks teacher experience (TE).
The group presentations were organised by course co-ordinators for all different levels of teacher trainees to present what actually they do in the field in few weeks’ time.
Speaking to this paper last week one of the tutor Ellison Giano said that this was the final week of doing this group presentation and he hoped teacher trainees have learnt something wonderful out of it.
“The group presentation is part of the new teaching strategies that was introduced to the teacher trainees at the university, Mr Giano said.
He explained the presentation was based on what they will do when out doing their practical for the next six weeks before coming back for graduation for final year students.
“In the past teachers seems to spend time at the class rooms doing lessons without letting the students do things by themselves and in groups, Mr Giano stated.
He added that this is good but it will help students to develop their skills of doing things together.
“The idea here is we want students to do activities in group work so that they will share ideas together, interact with each other and to develop working together before entering tertiary level which is dominated with working together,” he stated.
Speaking on behalf of the social science year two teacher trainees Madam Mavis Iwa said that with the group presentations, students have really enjoyed the way of learning at the university.
“This is very good because it build confidences upon teacher trainees on how to present class lessons confidently to students in front,” she added.
She acknowledged the tutors and lecturers of the university for their patients during the presentation weeks.
