The new Solomon Islands dengue laboratory positioned at the national referral hospital compound was official opens last week.
The dengue laboratory was funded by the government of Taiwan to Solomon Islands.
Speaking yesterday at the opening ceremony Hon. Wen-Ta Chiu minister of health and Welfare of the republic of china (Taiwan) said that he is very honour to come with his delegation to witness the 36th independence anniversary of Solomon Islands and to co-host the handling and opening ceremony with hon. minister for health Mr. Charles sigoto from Solomon Islands government.
“This is another time to celebrate the 31st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Solomon Islands and Taiwan government, Mr. Wen- ta chiu said.
He added that he was really happy with the friendship and bilateral cooperation between the ROC (Taiwan) and Solomon Islands that serve the best interest of both countries.
“As you are aware of that the national referral hospital is one of the major and successful aid project of ROC (Taiwan) to Solomon Islands, my government has provided more than US$11 million for its construction and extension since 1989. Last year my government donated Solomon Islands about US$260,000 to assist the national referral hospital in purchasing needed medical and laboratory equipments to combat the outbreak of dengue fever in the Solomons, Mr. Wen- Ta chiu revealed.
However, as we regarded Solomon Islands a very important diplomatic ally and close partner, my government has been dedicating its effort to assist our brother and sisters of Solomon Islands in their national development and elevation of their living standard through various assistances and upgrade health and medical capability in achieving the united nation millennium development goals (MDG)
In response the health minister of Solomon islands government Mr. Charles sigoto said that the establishment of art dengue laboratory will no doubt assist in establishing the true clinical picture of dengue in the country and more importantly help in the quick and early diagnosis of the dengue which will in turn assist our clinicians in the early proper management of treatment of dengue cease.
He said that on behave of the ministry of health and the NCRA government and, the people of Solomon Islands I really appreciate your government through ROC for making this a successful one in the country.
The program was attended by some highly officials from Taiwan lead by the Hon. Wen-ta chiu and Solomon islands government ministers who really enjoy the witnessing the official opening of the dengue fever laboratory first ever built in the capital.
