THE new medical operating theatre at Seghe area health centre in Marovo, Western province has saved many lives since it opened last year.
The medical operating theatre opened May last year and doctors travelling down to Marovo have performed multiple operations down there.
Called Bishop Wilfred Kurepitu operating theatre, it was funded by the Marovo medical foundation.
However, the theatre is still without a doctor to look after but doctors in town have spared time to travel to Marovo to carry out operations.
“Our local doctors and US surgeons do operation at Seghe theatre,” a villager in Marovo said in an email.
He said the US doctors normally visits Marovo twice a year to provide medical services since 2007.
“At the moment there no local doctors to oversee the theatre but we are only waiting when team of doctors from Honiara or Gizo to do operations,” he said.
He remarked the operations performed at the theatre have saved many patients lives, and also made it easier for Marovo people to receive medical operations at Seghe health centre.
The next team of US doctors will visit Marovo in November later this year.
