4000 mosquito to be distributed to communities in Honiara
THE Honiara City Council’s (HCC) health division has continued its fight and campaign against malaria throughout the national capital with the distribution of up to 4000 mosquito nets to communities in Honiara.
Speaking to this paper yesterday, Doris who is part of the division’s malaria campaign team said that the campaign is a continuation of what they have already kick started last year.
“We have an estimated distribution target of 8080 mosquito nets to be handed out to areas throughout the national capital with high malaria cases.
“Distribution has been divided into three groups, East, Central and West Honiara.
“Our team will be visiting each communities (house to house) in these areas, conduct a brief headcount within a total household and then have the mosquito nets distributed,” she said.
The nets have funded for by the global fund, under the VBDCP (vector-borne disease control program) here in the Solomon Islands.
Doris highlighted that they have hired casual workers to help with the distribution of nets throughout all three zones, adding that distribution will continue until all 4000 mosquitoes have been fully distributed.
The team meanwhile called on the public to cooperate and give all relevant information to net distributors whenever they are visited.
