DESPITE its poor cash-flow situation, Malaitan leaders and their people congregate at Malu’u to celebrate the province’s 31st second appointed day.
The celebration was to remember the day Malaita gained its status as a province 31 years ago in 1983.
The event was marked peacefully, and Malu’u substation officer commanding Alfred Fioga was pleased with the crowd behaviour.
Deputy Prime Minister Manasseh Maelanga was the guest of honour at the celebration that was also attended by Premier Edwin Suibaea, his executive members, and other community leaders.
Mr Fioga said he was pleased the event went without any disturbances and concluded peacefully late in the afternoon.
“This is the kind of behaviour we want to see from our people,” he said.
“We have some young people here who normally get drunk and come to such events to cause troubles, but today, we are happy to see no disturbances at the celebrations,” Mr Fioga said.
The event was graced by the participation of the popular EM Choir, an emerging gospel group in north Malaita.
Choir leader Jones Otafa’alu said his members were proud to be invited to entertain during the province’s big day.
“This is a day that we all Malaitans should celebrate,” Mr Otafa’alu said.
