A man who returned $12,000 cash that was mistakenly handed to him by a bank has received high praises from the police.
Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Gabriel Manelusi said Charles Rina’s honesty must be highly commended.
“Rina has set a fine example for all of us to follow,” Manelusi said.
“He had demonstrated honesty and respect when he returned the $12,000 to Pan Oceanic Bank (POB),” he added.
Rina, a young private consultant, told the Solomon Star he went to POB last Wednesday to cash a cheque for $83,667.80.
Back in his office, he counted the cash the teller gave him and realised it was $95, 667. 80
“When I realised it, I told a friend about it and decided I have to return the extra $12,000 back to the bank.
“Rightly, it was their money. If I took it, then that’s stealing,” he said.
Rina said he’s someone who believes in an honest earning.
“I don’t believe in anything you earn without your sweat. You only get satisfaction when you earn something out from your sweat.”
Manelusi said Rina is the type of person this nation needs if it is to move forward.
“This is where respect begins and people will highly value your character and attitude in life if we are honest.
“The honesty and respect Rina demonstrated show he was God-fearing.
“I commend this young man for his honest character,” Manelusi said.
