REPRESENTATIVES of government, non-government organisations, and the private sector are attending a workshop on child labour and trafficking, which will end today in Honiara.
The three-day forum is being held at the Heritage Park Hotel, organised by the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
The forum aims to build the capacity of participants to understand child labour concepts and international law.
Minister responsible for labour, Elijah Doromuala, said the forum offers a platform to discuss issues and identify prioritise and plan of actions for a better future and decent work opportunities for children.
“The meeting is an important time for all organisations to discuss an effective strategy to be implemented by government to avoid this issue from affecting our children,” he said.
“Stakeholders, it is important to aware of the hazard before advocating the information in societies to alert parents about the risk of child labour and trafficking,” the minister told participants.
He said in the Pacific Island Countries (PIC) children are susceptible to the worst forms of child labour and trafficking.
He added after the forum they will conduct awareness programs in societies for parents to protect children against child labour and trafficking in the country.
