A WEEK-LONG Public Order Management (POM) training conducted for Auki police ended successfully, Friday.
The training, which started Monday, was part of police preparation for the upcoming national elections.
The training was conducted at the Aligegeo sports ground. It concluded with presentation of certificates.
Commandant of Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) at Auki, inspector Cecil Nokia, said he believed the training provided officers with news skills and knowledge to improve their work.
“The training is productive. I believe this is how we should liaise with each other,” he said.
Mr Nokia thanked everyone for their participation, contribution, and support towards the success of the training.
A spokesman for the officers, Johnson Konai congratulated the officers for their participation and every effort put in during the training.
He said that officers’ fitness is vital for their job
“To encounter any riot or public disorder we must ensure that we are supper fit,” he said.
Tex Tafoa, Provincial Training Coordinator (PTC), thanked every officer for participation, patience, and showing support towards the training.
He said that as police officers training is important as it is part of their work.
“The more we train, the more we have and feel confident to face any unforeseen circumstances or riot,” he said.
“As a PTC, I believe after these training,my officers will have confidence in themselves to face whatever situation that may arise.
“As we are approaching this very important event, it is necessary to prepare for any unforeseen circumstance.
“This is not only for the national election but to prepare the officers with necessary skills to command any public disorder that might occur,” he added.
Meanwhile, officers are urged to put into practice what they have learned.
Mr Tafoa added they will never back down but will keep on engaging in training from here.
The training was facilitated by Police Response Team (PRT) officers from Honiara.
About 31 officers,including one female,undertook the POM training.
Mr Tafoa thanked the PRT facilitators for their time and support.
