LANDS, Housing and Survey minister, Joseph Onika says people need to have land first before other services are provided.
Mr Onika said this in response to a question raised by Opposition Leader, Dr Derek Sikua if other services including electricity and water are available following revelations that 300 plots of land were available to be tendered out.
In answering Dr Sikua’s question, Mr Onika said that all other services including water and electricity needed money and time for planning.
He said if the tendering of land were to be delayed so that other services are made available first, it would add more pressure not only on the victims (looking for land to build and reside on) but also for his ministry’s staff.
“It is important that people have the land to settle before working towards acquiring these other services,” Mr Onika said.
Mr Onika also said victims of the disastrous April flooding will be prioritised when the plots are tendered out.
