Kilu’ufi hospital in Auki, Malaita province has taken delivery of a new land cruiser last week which has solved their transport dilemma.
Malaita provincial health director Dr Huddie Namo said the new vehicle will ease the burden of his staff looking for transport to pick them up for work and for dropping them off after work.
Not only that but to help in medical runs and other hospital related businesses, he added.
He said for several weeks all the nursing staff had to use the hospital ambulance, TB vehicle to drop off after work and pickups.
Dr Namo said having a vehicle is important to allow the flow of services as well as allow his staff to go out on outreach work.
“We will order some more next time to help us run programs like community awareness and other important things that the hospital wants to do in the province.
“This is the start so look after those properties carefully,” Dr Namo stated.
DrNamo thanked the ministry of health for the purchase of the land cruiser which was received last Tuesday.
Meanwhile before the resumption of the service by the new vehicle Rev: Fr John Richardson Sale was engaged to bless the vehicle.
It was the first time for such a thing to be done.
In his remarks Dr Namo said the idea for praying over this new truck is for the safety of the vehicle and those who will be travelling in it, Dr Namo said.
“Accident is something we don’t expect it that is why we must prayer for this truck though its a pieces of iron,” he added.
He also warned that drivers and passengers to respect the vehicle by not consuming alcohol, smoke or eat betel nut inside the vehicle.
“As health people, we are the role model in carrying the message of health wherever we go.
“In this case, drivers are advised to take such activities outside but when driving all those concern things must be stopped,” he added.
Fr Sale said its his first time for a hospital vehicle and it’s the right choice to bless the vehicle before it starts serving the people in the province.
