MAKIRA-ULAWA premier Thomas Weape says the care-taker NCRA government under Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo was a “disappointment”.
He said he was very disappointed the government was unable to complete the unfinished Ngorangora Airfield.
Mr Weape said the government started upgrading the airfield in 2013 by building a fence around the airstrip.
The government also promised to build a new terminal building and tar seal the runway.
“The fence was left incomplete while there was no work done on the proposed terminal building and the tarsealing of the runway,” Mr Weape said.
He said this is truly disappointing.
“These are national projects and it was really disappointing to see the NCRA government vacating office without completing them,” he said.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and communication, Francis Lomo earlier this year said that the ministry wanted to complete the airfield project but the problem is with funds.
“We are aware of the situation there, and what Premier Weape was saying is true,” he said then.
“We did the fencing project and our engineers have recommended the tar-sealing of not only Ngorangora, but all the other airfields.
“But as you well aware, everything depends on money.
“We have shared the allocated funds for all the provinces last year and our next move is to fund the tar-sealing project for Ngorangora, Lata, and Gwounaru’u in Malaita.
“We would surely work on the Ngorangora airfield and Lata in Temotu,” Mr Lomo said.
In the last parliament meeting, MP for Aoke Langalanga Mathew Wale also described the NCRA government as “disappointing”.
“If I were to describe the NCRA Government with one word, the only word that comes to mind is ‘disappointing’.
“Lots of works and projects have remained incomplete and now abandoned with the dissolution of the parliament”.
