PRIME Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo has been reassured that work towards the establishment of the new University of South Pacific (USP) Doma Campus is progressing well.
Mr Lilo was assured when he met with USP vice-chancellor and President Professor Rajesh Chandra and Pro-Chancellor IkbalJannif in Honiara last Friday.
Both USP leaders told the Prime Minister that the USP Council was confident that work would begin as soon as all necessary arrangements were in place.
“Despite the minor hiccup as a result of the clearance of the unexploded ordnances at Doma, there are no major hindrances or whatsoever that will hamper work on the establishment of the new campus,” Professor Chandra told the Prime Minister.
Mr Lilo in response said he fully supports the project and he would make sure that his successor or the next Government would continue to support and prioritise the USP Doma Campus.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Lilo has assured that despite the establishment of the Doma Campus, Solomon Islands would continue to maintain its investment in other USP campuses regionally.
Mr Lilo made this statement in light of some recent reports that Solomon Islands would decrease its student investment in other USP campuses abroad when the Doma Campus comes into operation.
The Prime Minister’s assurance was welcomed by both USP leaders.
“Let us move forward to see the successful completion of the Doma Campus and I acknowledge both your leaderships to see this project become successful in the near future,” Mr Lilo said.
