Parents, students told to be mindful of cabs they follow
POLICE have raised concern over the increasing reports of students being harassed and molested by cab (taxi drivers) the past couple of weeks.
Police Commissioner, Frank Prendergas revealed that the continuous disturbing reports of such has sparked great concern to the RSIPF’s Sexual Assault Division who had gone out to warn parents and students not to hop onto vehicles driven by people they do not know at any time.
“It is a growing concern that the Police would like to shed some light on, especially to students, their parents and even cab or bus drivers.
“We have over the past weeks received disturbing reports of several students who have been either forcefully picked up by cabs and then molested or harassed by the cab drivers.
“It has come to our knowledge that not all cab drivers, but a very small fraction who are involved in such,” Mr Prendergas revealed.
Mr Prendergas said that Police are now investigating these matters and have moved to alert parents not to send cabs to pick up their children for fear of similar instances may occur.
“The safety of our children must be our priority, hence we should not pay cabs to pick up our children after work, for fear of similar incidents may occur.
“The RSIPF would like to call on parents and also students not to jump in any vehicle or cab that you are not familiar with,” he said.
Mr Prendergas also added that Police are look into ways of dealing with such problems, and have also called upon the public to report any of such happenings.
