SOLOMON Islands National Teachers Association (SINTA) will start awarding gold medals to long-serving dedicated teachers as of next month.
SINTA announced this yesterday after it received 30 gold medals from a local company My Magazine.
General Secretary of SINTA Samson Faisi said the initiative was the first of its kind and it will become an annual event.
“Teachers retire every year and this initiative will be an annual event. For the start, we will be presenting the 30 gold medals plus certificates of recognition,” Mr Faisi said.
Production manager of the My Magazine Able Balbo said they sourced the medals from a company in Fiji.
He said it cost them $20,000 to get the medals here.
The medals and certificates were handed over to SINTA yesterday.
Meanwhile, Mr Faisi explained the intention behind these awards is to recognise teachers who have served the country well.
“It’s important we make them feel important and worthy after contributing their time and service to the nation,” he said.
He said the awards will be present on World Teachers Day.
