More than 20 young aspiring entrepreneurs graduated last Thursday from the Youth@Work business class.
The class spanned 3 weeks and saw the young business men and women learning basic business training which covered topics such as identifying opportunities, managing a business, costing their products and analysing their intended market.
The young participants of the Youth@Work business class graduated last Thursday in a ceremony at the Art Gallery grounds attended by a few prominent guests. Among the guests was Australian Deputy High Commissioner, Mr Dave Peebles. Mr Peebles congratulated the young participants and said that he was very happy to see young people empowering themselves through the program.
He also went on to say that the Australian High Commission fully supports this particular Youth@Work training component.
Also among the guests were Mr Andre Tipoki, Deputy Director for Youth Division of the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs (MWYCFA) and Director for SISBEC, Mr Ben Nginabule. The 3 week business class was organised by Youth@Work and facilitated by SISBEC.
Mr Nginabule said that this was a chance to collaborate with youth organisations such as Youth@Work that help young people realise their potential.
“We see this partnership with Youth@Work as very important because we are helping young people improve themselves and also motivate them to identify opportunities that they create for themselves,” said Mr Nginabule.
Youth@Work is a combined effort of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), the Ministry of National Unity, Peace and Reconciliation; The Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Commerce, Industries, Labour and Immigration and the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs. t is a long term programme to tackle youth unemployment in the Solomon Islands and is funded by Australian Aid. To date, over 1600 youth have been given job internships and extensive training under the programme, with another 1500 youth given entrepreneurial opportunities and training through the popular YOUTH MARKET.
