SOLOMON Islands has witnessed another historical launch of a new political party last Sunday afternoon in Honiara.
Called Solomon Islands People First Party (SIPFP), it preached its ideology of putting Solomon islanders first and leaves no one behind.
Party President Rt Reverend Bishop Jonnie L Kuper, said SIPFP believes the country does not achieve its full development potential for the past 36 years of political independence.
Bishop Kuper said the reason amongst others is being for lack of visionary and ethical leadership.
He added some of the contributing factors included the lack of one single unified vision that affirms national identity that provides the foundation for a long term national development agenda, tension between systems of governments, growing culture of corruption, ethnic tension, land issues, limited trade potentials, impact of climate change, unfavourable global economic events, country’s drastic population growth and lack of proper partnership with the private sector.
The SIPFP president said these challenges call for a response that is both visionary and strategic.
“A response that addresses the realities of today within the context of a longer-term national development strategy. A response that is supported by suit of broad based economic and policies for growth that engages and empowers resource owners, the private sector, churches, civil society as equal partners in development,” Bishop Kuper said.
He further stressed that this country needs a response that embodies the principles of a Blue economy and Green Growth.
“The people of our nation have been calling for changes, for transparency and accountability, for a caring group of people called Parliamentarians…calling for a vision for the country and plan to achieve such vision…calling for fair and equal access to resources…equal representation and for political leadership they can rely on, believe in and put their trust in, so that their needs and their priorities will be given equal measure in consideration,” The party president said.
Although it is quite difficult to find people who can answer those calls, he added, SIPFP believes in God. That everyone must put their faith and in God all must trust.
“The Party’s message is clear, we will leave no one behind,” the Party boss reiterated.
