Five more new jumbo buses would arrive in Honiara from China in December or early next year to alleviate short bus route in Honiara.
Ropiko Enterprises Limited (REL) has ordered these buses from China.
REL’s Managing Director Roland Piko said: “the buses and should arrive in Honiara by December or early next.”
The two buses would have couches for tourists which would be fully air condition while the other three would be of similar condition like the other two jumbo buses currently serving the Honiara city.
Mr Piko said the two buses are basically to alleviate the short bus route in Honiara.
“These buses would serve the public and also be available for hiring by any groups and organisations.”
He said the current two buses which are currently serving the city are not enough to meet the demand.
“Bus transportation is very demanding here for public use and hiring. A classic example is next week the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock would hire these two buses for three days.
“These are the challenges I face here, so by having these new buses they should alleviate the demand for transportation in the city,” Mr Piko said.
Since the arrival of the two buses, it had helped to ease the demand for transportation in the city. Not only that but people are paying less to travel longer distance especially between Henderson and White River.
