Finance Minister in the Choiseul provincial government Alfa Kimata, has strongly criticized a newly set up shipping company in the province.
In a statement he said Choiseul Provincial Government does not support it nor does it reflect the views under the existing Lauru Shipping Company.
The criticism came in the wake of an announcement of its formation and a three million dollars government guarantee scheme it secured and delivered last week to buy a new company ship.
Mr Kimata described it as an example of duplication under the existing Lauru Shipping Company.
He said that such government guarantee should never be used to buy new ship but meant for backups on less economical routes across the country including Choiseul Province.
Mr Kimata said the shipping route to Choiseul is not that wide and suggested everyone in Choiseul should support the existing Lauru Shipping Company including the Government.
Mr Kimata also called on the Provincial Member for Varisi lavata Ward 12, Gideon Panisasa, to refrain from making false statement about Choiseul Provincial Assembly support on the new shipping company.
He also cited constitutional powers that the $3 million dollars Government franchise dished to the new company could be an illegal payment after desolation of parliament in September when the incumbent government no longer exercises executive duties.
He warned the Government to exercise restraint and keep away from self interest groups to secure hidden goals using the name of Choiseul provincial Government and people.
