The country’s newly appointed Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast successfully conducted his first visit to Kira Kira, Makira/Ulawa provincial capital last week.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Richard Hane said it was the first visit by Prendergast since taking up the post to lead the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).
Mr Hane said the visit last Monday was a historic and acknowledged by his officers.
“They were happy with the Commissioner’s visit as it is the first time for a Police Commissioner to visit that provincial police station.
“His coming last week was a history for the province and my officers to have such a high profile police head visiting us,” the PPC said.
During the brief visit local officers were able to meet and talk with Mr Prendergast.
It also offered an opportunity for the Police Chief to see the existing infrastructure at the Kira Kira police station.
The visit was part of Prendergast’s move to assist RSIPF in its work in the country especially in the provinces.
Mr Hane said during the visit the Police boss reminded them about leadership and discipline and its importance to the force.
“ Mr Prendergast has encouraged us to work faithfully and harder in restoring law and order in the country.”
Mr Hane said his officers have taken on the message left by the Police Chief and will work hard to maintain law and order in the province.
Its understood Makira police are also preparing for the upcoming national general election next month.
Since taking up the position Mr Prendergast had visited Western and Malaita Provinces respectively.
