ISABEL provincial health promotion team has successfully toured around the province last week to conduct awareness campaign on measles.
During their awareness program they also established few vaccination sites.
A senior nurse from Buala hospital Ambrose Kikolo said the awareness program was conducted mainly to give advise for people to get vaccination and for patient with measles to isolate themselves for seven days.
“We visit families and give them advises on the purpose of vaccination and how to prevent them from the spread of measles,” the nurse said.
Mr Kikolo said that Isabel is one of the provinces that has just received their vaccines.
He added more suspected measles cases are being recorded at the Buala hospital, many of them being referred from the nearby clinics.
“The patients we are seeing have rash on their body and faces”.
Mr Kikolo said they only treated them with antibiotic and advised them to isolate themselves for seven days until the rash disappear.
“But due to lack of testing facilities no results could be determine,” Mr Kikolo said.
Health authorities are calling on people of Isabel province to get vaccinated to reduce spread of the disease.
