Future Choiseul MPs need to work together with their provincial government to bring back national interest to the Choiseul rural populace.
John Smith Pitabelama the owner of the Gizo-based JSP legal service made the statement in an interview on Monday.
Our three current outgoing MP’s Manasseh Sogavare, Connelly Sandakabatu and Elijah Doromuala failed to work together throughout their team in the ninth parliament.
“These outgoing MPs of my province lack coordination; planning, vision and consultation.
“When you fail to consult, you fail to work together as leaders of Choiseul,” he said.
Constituencies of Choiseul expect their MPs to bring back national interest to them.
It is drastically important for new Choiseul MPs to consult with the provincial government on what areas of development that needs to be established.
“I see no reason why they should work as individualistic,” Pitabelama said.
He told the Solomon Star yesterday that there should be proper consideration and recognition of chiefs in Choiseul.
“Because the chiefs are the custodian of the resources and landowners of Choiseul, hence future MPs should discuss with the provincial government on customary land issues.
“This issue is a national interest and they need to address it in the provincial level because 85 percent of the land is customary.
“There should be coordination and consultation with the chiefs, government and the people.
“The law is clear that any land dispute have to be channeled through the chiefs you cannot take customary land to high court because it has no power to deal will it only the chiefs does.”
