The Ministry of Education and Human Resources is urged to monitor the performances of teachers at schools.
Isabel premier James Habu made the call last Saturday.
Habu said he had heard complaints from teachers about regular absenteeism by certain teachers at some schools in Isabel.
“At some schools, there were no classes for some weeks because students and staff were engaged in fundraising activities,” he said.
“I call on the ministry to investigate those teachers and if found to be true, discipline them,” the premier added.
He said teachers are paid for teaching the students and they are supposed not to engage in fundraisings.
“If they want to cease classes, the school administration must consult relevant authorities first, such as the Isabel provincial education authority.”
Premier Habu said parents were disappointed about the situation because they paid school fees.
Habu said headmasters and schools administrations must control their staff from absenteeism and provide report of their performance.
“I cannot reveal the names of these schools because we are still keeping a closer on them,” he said.
He added management of school funds is also an issue at some schools.
The premier said schools concerned have run out of ration and were unable to purchase new food for students due to lack of funds.
He cited Sir Dudley Tuti College as one such school.
