Honiara City Council’s newly built dental clinic in Chinatown will open its doors soon to the public.
Many people have suffered dental problems since the closure of the Dental Centre at the National Referral Hospital.
City mayor Andrew Mau said the main building has been completed.
“It’s just the furnishing inside and other minor jobs that are yet to be done,” he said.
“This would take a few more weeks and we should open the clinic for our residents of Honiara,” Mua said.
Site supervisor Jimmy James said the clinic is expected to complete by the end of the month.
“The only remaining task is to furnish the building with furniture, power it up, and few other works then we should have it opened,” James said.
The two-storey building costs around $4.5 million. It will house the dental clinic and a police post.
Funding came from the Ministry of Health and the Honiara City Council.
The council’s chief dental officer Dr Angela Tahani earlier expressed the need and importance of dental service to the public.
“It’s really a pity to see our people queuing for dental services at Kukum clinic each morning,” she said.
At the moment, the Kukum dental centre can only accept 50 patients each day.
Those who came after the first 50 cards have been issue will have to wait for the next day.
