Outgoing Member of Parliament for Temotu Vatu constituency Clay Forau has dismissed claims he misused shipping grant the government provided to the constituency.
Constituent Benjamin Ariki claimed a funding meant for Vatu Shipping Agency worth $3 million had disappeared.
According to Ariki PV No: MID -5823-HQR-0215-14 receipt for VATU SHIPPING AGENCY amount of $3,000,000 never come to fulfillment.
But Forau said the accusation was baseless and that the person who raised it is desperate as he was an intending candidate.
Forau said records of the said funds are available and should the concerned person wanted to see them, he is welcome to see him.
However, Ariki said Forau is hiding something because even funding for projects in 2012 were never been explained to the people
“Forau is lying and covering up all his discrepancies. We have asked him time and again to show as receipts of how he spent the funds but he never did,” Ariki said.
He claimed besides the shipping grant, people are still waiting to see the proceeds of the 2012 Agriculture Funds amounting to $350, 890 for cocoa and coconut rehabilitation, Forestry Fund – downstream processing at $254,872, Reforestation Fund at $140,000, and Church Fund allocation at $200,000.
“All we are asking is to show us how the funds were allocated.”
