The United Democratic Party (UDP) vows to reform our customary land tenure system in Solomon Islands if in the event they formed the new government.
Vice president of UDP Danny Philip made the statement at a press conference in Honiara Hotel yesterday.
Philip told local reporters that their party is determined to implement that once given the mandate.
UDP will seriously pursue reforms through the introduction of the Solomon Islands Customary Land Institutionalization policy which will be written by a framework.
He said, “I have served under five Prime Ministers but nothing has been done on land reform system in our nation.”
Land reformed is fundamental because it accommodates development activities to eventuate.
The land reform will enable customary land holding groups to institutionalize their customary lands for the purpose of rendering it to become more inclusive in order to enhance socio- economic development.
‘A body will also establish that is fully responsible to oversee the consideration of settling any dispute that may arise amongst the different ethnic communities.”
Former Prime Minister Philip told reporters that UDP have come to terms to merge with other parties to form a government if their candidates after the national general election.
