COMMUNITY Policing team within the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have kicked off its selection awareness program in communities around Honiara and Guadalcanal starting last week.
As the country goes through the election fever, the team is also visiting communities to talk to residents about the importance of maintaining law and order during this period.
Gilbert Camp in East Honiara was one of the communities which participated in the awareness program on Sunday.
Three Police officers from the Community Policing Team conducted the awareness program.
Team leader Constable Audrey Suhata said the awareness is to ensure the days leading up to Election Day is peaceful, everyone is happy and safe to vote without fear or influences from others.
“It is important for all people to have their own choices to vote for who they want and be free to exercise their democratic right,” Suhata said.
During the awareness the team also told the community about the ban on alcohol and othe drugs during the polling day.
“Police will not tolerate drunkenness, drugs and other anti social behaviour at polling booths.”
The public had been urged to respect the law and order set by Police.
