Honiara City residents have been acknowledged for their good behaviour towards the smooth and peaceful election within the city’s three constituencies last week.
Honiara City Mayor Andrew Mua yesterday expressed his deep appreciation for the good behaviour shown by the residents.
Mr Mua said as the administrator looking after the city, the council management is very proud of everyone in the city for the good behaviour and respect shown towards each other to ensure a peaceful and fair election has taken place.
“Our people must be given all the praise. Without their good behaviour, this city would have experienced some disorder that would cause problems affecting innocent lives. But due to people’s good behaviour, everyone seems to enjoy the peaceful process of the National General Elections within the city,” Mua said.
He said the good behaviour shown reflects a city resided by good people and that sends a positive message to the outside world about Honiara despite being seen as a volatile city to reside and visit.
The City Mayor stressed that this good behaviour indicates maturity of people that reflects the true peaceful people of this country.
“Despite a city with mix races, diverse cultures and beliefs, the peaceful process of the election shows how people value their politics to ensure the process of electing their leaders goes out smoothly, peacefully and fairly.
“The office of the Mayor with the City Clerk and management is grateful to the people of this city and we hope this peace and good behaviour continued to flourish,” Mua added.
The Mayor also thanked the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Electoral Commission for their efforts to ensure this election runs smoothly without any hiccups.
Meanwhile Mr Mua calls on all city residents to continue to show the same attitude and behaviour towards council’s election that will be held on December 17th.
