WHILST the fight to maintain the number to form the next government mounts, party lobbyists and supporters are also up in arms for political jobs.
The Solomon Star uncovered quite a number of people who claimed to be supporters of the two camps and are closely eyeing the jobs.
Most are good friends and associates of Members of Parliament in the two camps.
At both the Honiara and Mendana/IBS camps, this paper saw individuals who are closely linked to each of the MPs and are talking about political positions if their camp wins.
“It is normal to see these opportunists coming around. They are keen on political positions within the government.
“But it would be good if the government advertises these positions for proper people to fill. We had enough of people being appointed as political appointees with huge salaries, but did nothing,” one MP spoken to said.
The MP, who asked not to be named, says this practise has to stop.
He said these people are paid by tax payers for doing nothing.
“Look at what happened in the past government. There are people who should not be in there, but are benefiting from tax payers money for nothing.
“This is day light corruption we are talking about. They are eating tax payers’ money for nothing and they should be ashamed of that” the MP said.
He added that any new government coming in must change this to allow for proper and qualified people who can contribute positively to the development of this country and not stealing from taxpayers.
“However, it’s up to the new government to decide who to fill up the political posts. History shows that only associates of those in government will fill those posts.
“Let’s hope a new government coming in will change from bad to good and not from bad to worse,” the MP said.
Meanwhile, these individuals seeking political posts can be seen every day at these two camps.
