Malaita’s Caretaker Premier Edwin Miniti Suibaea has been unseated in the provincial election.
His successor, Glen Waneta polled a big margin against his rivals as counting for Northern region wards was completed at Maluú station on Thursday.
Speaking to this paper minutes after the results were announced Suibaea revealed as a leader he profoundly accept his lose.
“I think my time is up. It was hectic days when in office which surely shows theres a need to rest from politics.
“It’s best to see someone new taking up the leadership role.”
The former Premier said, he wants to see his successor work harder and committed to lead the people.
Suibaea said, in the past four years he has many commitments to make for the good of Malaitans and rarely have time for his family and ward members.
The former Premier went on to admit one factor which led to him to losing the seat stemmed in lack of cooperation from his administrative block.
“Under my administration I did not have the right people to assist me.
“Thus obviously when things are not straight it will backfire on me.”
However his Deputy Premier Alick Maeaba regains his seat for ward 29 of Central Kwaraáe.
Suibaea was first elected as a provincial member for ward 8 of North Malaita in 2003. He maintained the position in the 2006 and 2010 provincial elections.
Then early 2011 see him being elected as Malaita’s premier.
