A GUADALCANAL man has called on the newly elected Premier of Guadalcanal Province, Bartholomew Vavanga, to choose his new members of executive based on merit and necessary experience.
Charles Rongovata made the call yesterday in light of the historical election of the premier in which all 21 provincial ward members voted for Vavanga to lead the province for the next four years.
Mr Rongovata said since Vavanga’s election to the post of premier was greeted by a resounding all 21 votes, it is only pertinent that the premier chooses his executive members based on merit and necessary experiences.
“The premier has the whole house of the assembly eager and ready to serve the province, he must use his God-given knowledge and wisdom to choose the right people with the right caliber to carry the province forward,” Mr Rongovata pointed out.
He added there are few MPAs with qualifications and there are few others with necessary experiences, premier Vavanga should choose these leaders ahead of others if he is genuine in rebuilding and advancing the interests of the province and its people.
The Guadalcanal man also praised the wisdom of the MPAs who have chosen in their own consciences to stand together and elect only a candidate.
“I understand that the other candidate for the premier’s post also voted for the incumbent premier and to me, it shows there is growing political maturity within the provincial assembly- it is a sure sign that MPAs are genuinely keen to see the advancement of the province,” Mr Rongovata said.
He also urged the Guadalcanal Provincial administration to play the necessary support to the in-coming executive.
“The provincial administration must ensure that it carries out its responsibilities with due diligence and professionalism to realise the policy goals of the in-coming executive led by premier Vavanga,” Mr Rongovata urged.
He also called on the Guadalcanal men, women and youths to work together with the new executive- unite as one to elevate the province for the good of all.
