THE Rotary Club of Honiara has helped to bring festive cheer to the wards of the National Referral Hospital on Christmas Day.
Rotarians were joined by the RAMSI Participating Police Force (PPF) and volunteers to distribute hundreds of presents to patients, staff, family and friends.
Gifts included Solrice, Soltuna, soap, noodles, books and toys. Patients and caregivers were also treated to carols sung by the PPF choir, ice cream from Frangipani Ice, and a visit from Santa.
Rotary President Neil Yates said Christmas was a time for giving and friendship.
“I am proud that Rotary has been able to bring smiles to the faces of hundreds of sick men, women and children who are too ill to leave hospital and celebrate Christmas with their families,” Mr Yates said.
“It’s important to give something back to the community, particularly during this festive season,” he added.
“The Honiara community has really come together to spread the Christmas spirit.
“Rotary would like to thank the generous volunteers and donors who made this possible including the PPF, the International Tea Group, Solbrew, Solrice, Soltuna, Wings, CDL, and Frangipani Ice.”
Rotary Christmas gift giving is an annual event that has become a favourite Christmas tradition amongst the National Referral Hospital staff and the Honiara community.
