ANOTHER 15 babies were born on New Year’s Day at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) in Honiara – nine of which were females.
This was the same number born on Christmas Day at the hospital.
Exact figures of births across the country on New Year’s Day were not available.
One of the proud mothers was Kimberly Sulega, who gave birth to a healthy girl.
“I’m so proud to be a mother of this girl, who happened to be born on New Year’s Day,” Mrs Sulega told the Solomon Star.
“This means double celebration for us every year, having to celebrate my daughter’s birthday with New Year every time,” she said.
The 2009 Housing Census says there were more females than males in the country.
