A candle vigil will be organised to remember the young female who was stubbed to death at Tenaru on the New Year’s Eve.
The vigil is schedule for this Saturday at Arts Gallery starting 6:30pm.
The one hour event will be organised by The Family Support Centre, Communication, Advocacy and Development Network of Solomon Islands Women (CADNSIW) and other organisations, networks and movement working to end domestic violence in the country.
Ender Fafoi Rence, regional advocate for gender and ecological justice said the purpose of the candle vigil is to show the continuous solidarity support to women and men who are standing up against domestic violence, and immediate families of those who lost their loved ones in such brutal actions against women and children.
“For this Saturday we are remembering the life of late Lynette Keni who was brutally murdered by her brother in-law on the eve of 2015 and to continue to raise awareness of ending violence against women, seek to find solutions and prevent violence against women and girls.
“Women, young girls or children can be killed easily like that, just because they are weak and vulnerable but perpetrators must be warned that their bad actions is never accepted, never excused and never tolerated anywhere.”
Mrs Rence said it is a continuous fight to end violence against women and “we will never stop”.
“Family, friends and advocates against domestic violence are all welcome to the candle vigil.
