The Solomon Island Visitors Bureau (SIVB) will be introducing tourism awareness programs in schools starting this year.
SIVB’s Nelson Manepura, said the first programs will be rolled out into schools once the academic year starts.
“This is a new approach that the SIVB is venturing into; therefore it will be on trial initially.
“The SIVB realised that young people need to fully understand the tourism concept and industry, therefore the program is aimed at educating them about the basics of tourism,” Mr Manepura said.
Asked which schools the program will targets initially, he said they are working on target schools.
“We are not only serving the awareness program to schools in the city, we are working on ensuring students in schools throughout the country also get the share of the awareness program.
“Although not all schools will receive the awareness program, SIVB are working on identifying which schools throughout the country will be crucial.
“We might continue to more schools depending on how the program and budget work.”
