THE Honiara City Council (HCC) Deputy City Clerk Ronald Amigo is calling on the general public to help clean the city.
This came as the 7-metre by-law came into effect early this month.
He also highlighted the need to abide by the law so that people can change their attitude by not littering.
Speaking to the paper Mr Amigo yesterday said, the passing of the 7-metre law has so far been successful for HCC but more work still to be done to achieve the aim to make Honiara clean.
Mr Amigo said, the biggest obstacle to the goal of course, is attitude of the people.
“But it should not stop HCC from not continually aspiring to do something because a long journey starts from a single small step.
“Cleaning Honiara is everybody’s business, not just of HCC,” he added.
“We must thank those business houses, offices and residences who cooperated with the program,” said Amigo.
The council plans to install more rubbish drums to ensure that people place their rubbish at the right place.
Amigo said, the Rapid Employment Project (REP) is now procuring fuel drums which the Works Division will paint and distribute around the city.
He added the project will also procure plastic bins to be distributed to schools.
He also highlighted that the Law Enforcement Division will continue to step up its effort to implement the 7-metre by-law so that vendors can comply.
“HCC has suspended the Hawking Ordinance, so the vendors cannot sell in the streets now.”
