MALAITA Premier Peter Ramohia is calling on the Democratic Coalition for Change government (DCCG) to start with the Suafa cannery before implementing any other projects on Malaita this year.
His call came following assurances by the DCC government to implement national projects earmarked by the last government in the province.
While thanking the Sogavare led government for those assurances, Mr Ramohia encouraged DCC government to first implement Suafa Bay cannerybefore implementing any other national projects in the province this year.
“This is because fish is waiting to be harvested and process while others will have to go through many process before they can make money,” Mr Ramohia said.
“But this does not mean that Auluta and Waisisi oil palm plantations can’t be prioritized, no they too are important but its good to start with the Cannery project because fish waiting to be harvested and processed unlike palm which takes time to plant, harvest and process,” he added.
The Premier said, Malaita province needs quick recovery of its economy and Suafa Bay Cannary is the best solution to address its financial crisis and as well as the country.
“So I’m calling on the DCC government to first implement the Suafa Bay Cannery before those oil palm projects kick off,” he stated.
He said his executive ready to work closely with the Sogavare-led government to ensure most of the earmarked projects are achieved and implemented.
“As long as we launch our policy statement next week, we will get down by working hard to return the province to its rightful position.”
