Six suspects of Ugi Island have been arrested in relation to a burning and threatening incident that occurred in Ugi Island over the weekend.
They had been charged and were still waiting for the courts at the Kirakira Police custody.
The incident occurred, Thursday last week after two disputing parties’ fought over land.
As a result of the dispute, youths took things into their own hands by burning down two copra sheds, and three out board motor fibre glass boats.
Kirakira, Police commander Richard Hane confirmed the incident.
He described the incident as frightening.
“The incident is really frightening as it occurred at night, that the disputing party threaten the Maro’u community to burn down their homes.
“Women and children risked their lives, fled and spent a night in the bushes.
“Two copra sheds with valuable items and three Out Board Motor fibre glass boats have been razed to ashes by fire.
“They threatened to burn down the community the next day but with our quick intervention, the situation is now under control.”
Mr Hane said, that it has been a huge loss for the victims as many valuable items like copra and other valuables were lost in the fire.
He confirmed that the dispute was eased with Kirakira Police intervention, attending the scene that night.
“My boys and I did attend the incident that night and calmed down the situation. We did some arrest that time as well”.
The suspects are now awaiting court.
