A delegation of Malaita provincial government (MPG) and Suafa Bay landowners will meet with the Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare to discuss the Suafa Bay cannery today.
The proposed Suafa Bay cannery is one of the national projects earmarked for Malaita province by past governments.
Reports said, a delegation comprising of Malaita provincial secretary Patrick Taloboe representing the provincial government and landowners from Suafa Bay in North Malaita will meet with Mr Sogavare.
Malaita Premier Peter Ramohia said, he was informed about the proposed meeting.
“This is good news for Malaita province. As I have already said that if the DCC government wants to kick off projects on Malaita it must start with the cannery.
“This is because fish stocks are ready to be harvested and processed which can generate revenue much quicker.”
The numbers of landowners in the delegation could not be confirmed.
Several attempts to reach Mr Taloboe to confirm the proposed meeting was unsuccessful.
