The visa for 17 local students studying at University of Technology (UNITECH) in Lae, Papua New Guinea (PNG) has been lodged and should be available for collection on Monday.
An NTU officer spoken to yesterday said, the visas are now in process.
“We lodged the visa’s yesterday (Tuesday) to SI High commissioners office in Port Moresby which will be forwarded to the PNG’s immigration department.
“By Monday those students who did not have their names in the PNG High Commissioners office system should have their student permit approved,” the officer said.
PNG High commissioner’s office in Honiara informatics system will receive list of names of those who have been approved from other side then stamped for collection by students.
The NTU officer said, new intake of students to study at UNITECH including Pre-service and In-service should be more than 21. This means 38 local students in total will be studying this year at UNITECH.
“However the final list is yet to be confirmed since paper works and final grades of some of the students are yet to be assessed.”
Meanwhile more than 86 students studying at institutions like Goroka, UNITECH and Divine Word University are late for registration due to visa process being delayed.
This year, the PNG Government provided sponsorship training for over 200 Solomon Islands students in various tertiary institutions in PNG under the PNG Government scholarship grant which began in 2014.
