CLOSE to 136 students left yesterday for Fiji in the seventh charter flight organised by the Solomon Islands Government.
Nine charters are being earmarked to get all the students over to Fiji.
Of the nine charters, seven have been completed leaving two remaining charters to be done before the end of this week.
The seventh charter left yesterday at 3pm and it includes both new and ongoing students.
A spokesman from the National Training Unit (NTU) said, that the flight departed at 3pm.
“Onboard the charter was 136 students including ongoing and new students.
“With that seventh charter flight, two charters are still waiting to transport the remaining students over to Fiji.
“We’ll make sure all the students are in Fiji by weekend,” he said.
The officer said, the eighth charter will fly out on Friday.
The charter flights have increased after scholarship allocation for this year increased to 600 awards from the original 278 announced earlier.
Up to 700 plus students have already left on seven previous charters including charter seven, yesterday.
More than 1,000 students are studying in various universities in Fiji.
Classes at the University of the South Pacific (USP) already kicked off Monday.
