A RENNELL man is dead and his two colleagues are in critical conditions after their truck over-turned along the Bonota road, West Rennell last Thursday morning.
Reports from the island said the accident took place when the engine of their land cruiser failed while driving up a hill.
“The deceased jumped out of the truck but unfortunately hit the rocks, killing him instantly,” a Rennell man told the Solomon Star.
He said vehicle was going up-hill with a group of boys at the back on the trail when its engine failed.
“It caused the truck to slide backwards. Attempts to engage the hand brake failed as well.
“The boys in the back trail jumped off and that was when one of them got killed,” the man said.
The driver and the one sitting next to him sustained minor injuries.
The two, who were critically injured, were flown into Honiara and were hospitalised at the National Referral Hospital.
