A MAN who sells marijuana and also admitted stealing a mobile phone and a sunglass from a vehicle is now behind bars.
Jerry Laumae of Malaita has been sentenced to a total of 30 months imprisonment for the charges of impossession of marijuana and simple larceny.
Principal Magistrate Jim Seuika handed down 12 months jail term for the marijuana charge and 18 months jail term for the simple larceny charge.
He then ordered both charges to run consecutive.
The time Laumae spent in custody was taken in account, to which his sentence was also backdated to when he was first placed in custody.
Police caught Laumae selling marijuana in front of the old Low Price Enterprise shop next to the Honiara Central Market.
He was found with more than 40 rolls of marijuana in his bag.
In relation to the simple larceny charge, Laumae stole a mobile phone and a sunglass from a vehicle parked in front of the Low Price Enterprise.
The owner of the vehicle went to the Honiara Central Market and returned to find his mobile phone and sunglass missing from the vehicle.
He was told by his children, who were sitting at the back of the vehicle, of a man who was standing near the vehicle.
Laumae was arrested by police on the same day in front of the old Guadalcanal Province area.
All the incidents occurred on different dates in 2013.
He had already entered guilty pleas to the charge but then was issued a warrant of arrest.
Police had just arrested him this year where he was re-arraigned and now sentenced.
Laumae had 21 previous convictions mostly relating to stealing and possession of marijuana.
