THE Women’s Innovation Expo (WIE) has discouraged the sale of fried food, junk food and rice while encouraging traditional dishes.
This was one of the main highlight at the expo throughout this week.
President of Honiara Council of Women (HCW) Martha Alacky said, this was to encourage women to revitalise the traditional local dishes from different parts of the country.
“We encourage women to sell locally cooked and baked food, as part of promoting local Solomon Islands grown foods.
“We want to create a new cultural mindset to eat more local food, and practice the way of preparing food locally.”
Mrs Alacky said they discouraged the sell of fried food, rice and BBQ food at the expo.
Because of the high non-communicable disease around the globe, she said, they want people to keep up with the standard of eating healthy local food.
During this week, there were special activities that are lined up to enhance and promotion the potential and capabilities of women to the general populace.
