A 17-YEAR-OLD female student who has been charged with the murder of a fully formed baby found dead at the Henderson area, on Good Friday has been bailed on Friday.
The juvenile, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in the Honiara Magistrates’ Court for remand but was however bailed on a principal bail of $1,000.
Magistrate Natalie Kesaka released the juvenile on bail based on the Juveniles Act.
The girl from Guadalcanal Province was accused of burying her baby after giving birth on 5 April 2015 in the Henderson area.
Prosecution alleged she was eight months pregnant and gave birth to the baby boy on Good Friday when everyone at her house went to the Church.
It was alleged she did not follow everyone at her home to the Church when she felt labour pains.
While everyone was at the church service, she allegedly gave birth and buried her baby outside their house.
On the morning of the following day, prosecution alleged dogs dug up the shallow grave of the baby and pulled out the body.
Neighbours who saw the dead baby called police, who later arrested her.
Public Prosecutor Ishmael Kekou appeared for the State.
