HONIARA Central Market management has urged market vendors to move to Kukum market following the temporary closure of the main market for maintenance work.
Honiara Central Market Master Saxon Ofata told the Solomon Star yesterday that the market has been closed for an indefinite period as of Friday
“All market vendors must temporarily use the Kukum market to allow the Honiara Central Market management to conduct improvement work on the market building.”
The Honiara Central Market closed as of Friday.
The closure comes following a resolution reached by the Honiara City Council’s executive on Thursday.
“This market has been closed on Friday for further upgrading work around and within the market building.
“Therefore all market vendors in Honiara, Malaita, Gela and Guadalcanal and Western Province should be using the Kukum market while major maintenance work is carried out in the main market,” Mr Ofata said.
The market master has also asked all the vendors to vacate the market premises and to remove all their properties.
Ofata further stated that the re-opening of the market will be announced after the completion of the upgrading work at a later date.
