SELLING of salt fish at the Honiara central market will be banned when the main market reopens tomorrow.
The Honiara City Council and Honiara Central Market Management agreed to this following a meeting yesterday.
Honiara Central Market Master Saxon Ofata told the Solomon Star on Tuesday saying the sales of salt fish will be prohibited starting tomorrow.
“Anyone found selling salt fish at the central market will be prosecuted under the market ordinance.
“Fish vendors can sell whatever marine products at the market except the salt fish taken from the fishing boats,” Mr Ofata said.
He also pointed out that salt fish is not good for the health and therefore it must come to a stop.
He appealed to all the fish vendors to respect the decision made by the market management and HCC executive for the betterment of Honiara central market and its people.
The market boss said, daily inspections will be conducted to avoid people selling salt fish.
