THE recent closure of the Honiara Central Market has affected market vendors in their daily sales of products.
Speaking to this paper on Thursday, a group of women said for the past three days they are not receiving any income at all.
They said they do not see any reason to close the market for maintenance while such repair can still be done during night time.
“We have not earned what we supposed to get since the brief closure of the market starting last week,” one member of the group said.
“Simple maintenance work like the repainting of boundary lines in the market can be done in the night when the market closes,” a spokesperson for the women told this paper.
They also questioned why there is still no proper water being installed when the so called maintenance is being conducted.
“It is sad that we return to see not even proper water is provided for us to wash our products.
“We strongly urge responsible authorities to quickly fix the water issue here to help us in our sales,” they said.
The Market Master declined to make comments when contacted yesterday.
