COMMUNITIES in north Malaita participated in a Youth Management Community Reflection workshop conducted in their area this week.
Adventist Development Relief Agencies (ADRA) facilitated the workshop.
The province’s Minister for Development Planning and Institutional Strengthening Glen Waneta and Provincial Minister for Northern Regional Affairs Rev. Michael Maeliáu officiated at the closing ceremony.
They were joined by reps from Save the Children and Oxfam in Auki.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr Waneta said he was happy to see community reps from his ward participated in the workshop.
“This is a worthwhile endeavor,” he said.
“Later this year, I will came and talk to those communities whose reps attended the workshop,” he added.
“We need leaders who don’t rely on outside assistance in our communities to take leadership and encourage our people to work hard and not depend on others,” Mr Waneta said.
He thanked ADRA for facilitating the workshop.
Rev. Maeliau, a former national parliamentarian for North Malaita, also spoke at the closing ceremony.
He informed the participants of a conference the province is organising next month to bring Malaitans to share their views and ideas on how to design the destiny of the province.
“The conference is to determine where we are heading,” he said.
During the workshop, participants learn about effective management, long term commitment, investing of time and money, leadership and business plan.
