A TWO weeks peace-building training was successfully completed last week at the Solomon Islands Translation Advisory Group (SITAG).
The completion of the training will enable Church leaders to take up peace-building responsibility.
The training was funded by the Ministry of National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace (MNURP), Peace and Reconciliation Division and facilitated by the Ministry and Anglican Church of Melanesia Peace and Reconciliation Commission.
Speaking at the closing ceremony MNURP Undersecretary administration Margret Qoloni Etua thanked the facilitators and Church representatives for making the peace building training workshop a successful one.
She said, Church institution is a partner in peace building, with the training provided it would equip the leaders with the appropriate skills and knowledge to resolve problems, disputes, distress, stress and other issues that might cause division in the communities, churches and in the country.
“You are one of the most important player and a tool for making Solomon Islands a better place to live,” she said.
The Undersecretary added peacebuilding is not an individual or Ministry responsibility but it is a collective responsibility that all work towards for a better ending.
She encouraged the participants to make use of the skills and knowledge gain in peace-building to strive for a peaceful and prosperous Solomon Islands.
Fr. Paterson Ngaleasi who commissioned the officials said; “You are the fathers and mothers of this nation, go out and be partners of change and a peace builder of this nation.”
Topics covered during the two weeks training are; conflict analysis skill, conflict management awareness, conflict resolution awareness, conflict transformation awareness, trauma healing and trauma healing skills and awareness.
