MEMBERS of the Solomon Islands National University students association (SINUSA) will elect their student leaders today to lead the students’ body for the next two years.
The election of the new executive was supposed to be held last year, however an extension was issued which resulted in the election today.
SINUSA executive plays an important role in representing the students and fight for the welfare of the students at the university.
It is the highest decision making body on behalf of the students.
It existed mainly to address issues affecting the lives of the students at the school.
In the lead up to the election, last week students from Panatina and Kukum campuses have witnessed student candidates campaigning for a position.
The vacant posts are president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and other councillors’ posts.
Most of the candidates have completed their campaigning strategies last week and ready for the election today.
According to the body’s constitution, that body must be formed in order to carry the issues affecting the lives of the students to SINU council.
This was best described as the voice of the students to the SINU council.
More than five thousands students are expected to vote today.
